Decorative Privacy Fences

Decorative privacy fence walls, as the name implies, are designed to seclude an area from the outside world. Generally used as urban gated community fences and for suburban homes, privacy fences and walls screen the outside streets, vehicles or buildings from the sight of the homeowner while excluding those beyond the fence from looking inward. In addition, privacy fence walls establish boundary lines between neighbors.

Landscapers often plan a privacy fence wall into the scenery of a yard or other area. They make a distinction between two types of privacy fence walls: softscape and hardscape. Softscape privacy fences are grown from live plants. Often called a “live wall,” these softscaped fences are beautiful as they change with each season and attract birds to your home.

However, softscape privacy fences cause problems including attracting bugs and bees as well as increasing the pollen count around your home. The main aspect that discourages homeowners from creating a softscape privacy fence wall is that they are a massive amount of maintenance. Without completing that maintenance on a nearly daily basis, your privacy wall could exhibit holes from dying plants or from vines not growing in the right shape to protect your secluded area.

Hardscape privacy fence walls are often less expensive, in the long run, in terms of money and time, but need to follow strict fence codes. These privacy fences include precast concrete walls, sound barrier walls, vinyl designer fencing and wooden plank walls. The benefits of hardscape privacy fence walls include that they can be easily installed, provide instant isolation and may require little maintenance.

Precast concrete privacy fences are an excellent example of hardscape privacy fence walls that require almost no maintenance even though they outlast other types of softscape and hardscape walls.
